2:
Today, travel up the Eastern
Shore, taking in the picturesque
fishing villages with names
like Musquodoboit, Jeddore
and Sheet Harbour. Then its
up to the fabulous Sherbrooke
Village, a restored active
19th-century settlement. This
picturesque former lumbering
and shipbuilding community
looks as it did 100 years
ago, before goldmining transformed
it into a boom town.
Late afternoon cross the
deepest causeway in the world,
the Canso Causeway, and enter
the pridelands of “Canada’s
Ocean Playground”, Cape Breton!
Travel the scenic coastal
route to beautiful Mabou where
you will visit the Glenora
Inn and Distillery. Enjoy
an educational distillery
tour where you will witness
the production of North America’s
only single malt whisky! Sample
Canada’s first legal moonshine.
Bask in the serene surroundings
or browse the gift shop.
Continue along the Ceilidh
(pronounced Kay-lee) Trail,
which is Gaelic for “party”
or “gathering”, and travel
through the fishing port of
Inverness. Arriving in Cheticamp,
an Acadian fishing village
located beneath the Cape Breton
Highlands and on the Gulf
of St. Lawrence, consider
an evening whale watching
tour, cruise the coast of
the Highlands and see bald
eagles, endangered whales,
interesting rock formations
and seacaves. (Overnight in
Cheticamp).
Day
3:
Depart Cheticamp and travel
north along the famous Cabot
Trail. Travel the mountainous
highlands where you’ll make
stops at look off points to
observe bald eagles, moose
and the view of the ocean
meeting the land. Circle the
Highlands, marvel at the land
that Bell loved so much!
Onto Baddeck for a visit to
the Alexander Graham Bell
Museum where you’ll learn
of the life and works of this
famous inventor, teacher and
humanitarian, who, at age
29, invented the telephone.
Visit Bell’s summer home where
he spent 37 summers. (Overnight
in Baddeck at the Eagle’s
Perch Bed & Breakfast).
It was Alexander Graham Bell
who stated, “I have travelled
around the globe. I have seen
the Canadian and American
Rockies, the Andes and Alps,
and the Highlands of Scotland
- but for simple beauty, Cape
Breton outrivals them all.”
Day
4:
Depart Baddeck and across
the Causeway and via ferry
over the Northumberland Strait
to Prince Edward Island. If
the timing of the ferry allows,
take time to visit the Hector
Heritage Quay in Pictou where
a reconstruction of one of
the original Pilgrim ships
has been built, or tour the
Grohmann Knife Factory.
Travel to beautiful Cavendish,
famous for its white sandy
beaches and the Anne of Green
Gables House - setting for
the famous author Lucy Maud
Montgomery. Visit the Royal
Atlantic Wax Museum. See over
100 life wax figures from
London, England, portraying
the famous of yesterday and
today including Hollywood
stars, British Royalty, Anne
of Green Gables, presidents
and prime ministers and more.
We can also strongly recommend
a visit to the PEI Preserves
Co., where one of the best
Canadian jams and jellies
are being made, or visit Woodleigh
Replicas with its beautiful
miniature castles of Britain’s
glorious past.
Travel to Charlottetown,
the capital city of the Emerald
Isle and the “Birthplace of
Canada”. Tonight, enjoy a
traditional lobster dinner
on the waterfront and the
musical “Anne of Green Gables”
(a favourite for the last
32 years!) at the Charlottetown
Festival. Overnight in Charlottetown.
Day
5:
Take a city tour of Charlottetown
before heading back across
the Strait into Nova Scotia.
Stop enroute to Halifax to
visit the Telderberry Winery
and taste test their delicious
fruity products.
Spend the rest of the day
in Halifax. A historic city
with lots to see and do. Take
a harbour cruise, stroll the
boardwalk, or take in a fresh
seafood dinner at one of the
many fine local restaurants.
Try your hand at “Lady Luck”
in the Casino. Overnight in
Halifax.

6:
Today travel along the German
coastal Lighthouse Route to
picturesque Peggy’s Cove -
an artist’s and photographer’s
paradise! This village is
situated upon solid granite
rock which is actually debris
left behind by retreating
glaciers from the Ice Age.
See the famous DeGarthe monument
carved in granite rock depicting
life in the cove. Check out
the many craft and gift shops.
Continue on to the quaint
towns of Chester & Mahone
Bay. There are many craft
and antique shops and museums
along the way. Travel to Lunenburg,
famous for the schooner Bluenose,
the undefeated champion of
the North Atlantic fishing
fleet. The Bluenose II, a
replica of the original schooner,
was built and launched here.
Visit the Fisheries Museum
of the Atlantic for a taste
of our seafaring heritage.
Overnight on the South Shore.
Day
7:
Today, travel via Liverpool
to beautiful Kejimkujik Park.
Take a timed walk, ride a
bike or canoe in the calm
waters.
Join the enchanting Evangeline
Trail. Visit the Fort Anne
National Historic Site - Canada’s
oldest National Historic Site.
Explore the preserved earthwork
fortifications of the early
18th-century. View exhibits
and artifacts recounting the
historical struggle between
the French and the English.
Continue to Port Royal Habitation,
a reconstruction of the original
French fur trading post, founded
and settled by the French
over 2 centuries ago, which
has great historical significance.
War between the French and
English resulted in most of
the French, known as the Acadians,
being expelled from their
homeland. Many relocated to
Louisiana where they became
known as the Cajun people.
Stroll through the centuries
at the Grand Pre National
Historic Site which depicts
the early life of these first
settlers and honours their
plight. Explore the setting
for Longfellow’s poem and
heroine, “Evangeline”. Overnight
in the Halifax area.
Day
8:
This morning catch up on some
last minute shopping before
heading out to the Airport
for return home. Farewell
to Nova Scotia, but treasure
the memories and come again!
